Renovating An Old Nest

Ready for a complete overhaul 

We were supposed to sign the renovation agreement somewhere during end March. Unfortunately (or fortunately) our ID had to delay the signing as he will be overseas on 1st Apr.😃

When he came back to SG on 7 April 2022, I immediately sent a text in the morning informing him that we will be meeting him over the weekend to sign the papers. Hours later, SERS was announced.

And that leads us back to this article.

After some back and forth negotiation with Alfred (our ID), the final amount was about S$36,000 excluding the stainless steel kitchen, furniture, air-conditioning etc.

I traded my Archi/ Construction skills for a full time IT career 25 years ago. AutoCAD and 3D illustration took a backseat and became a past time hobby. The main question is whether I have the bandwidth to do interior design and project manage the entire renovation on top of my existing workload in the IT industry 

Unless I got a lot of time to spare, as a perfectionist, it will be in my best interest that I let others take over this task. 

Initially wife volunteered to project manage the renovation. However I had already seen a few real-life cases where owners with no building construction experiences wanting to save some money by own self doing the project management and made some bad decisions.

Renovation sites are very dynamic and regardless of how detailed the working drawings were, owners when presented with construction issues, they usually fall back to own common sense. But as time passes after the project handover, they began to list down some of the top regrets in their projects. 

Basic Renovation Cost

After some back and forth negotiation with Alfred (our ID), the final amount was about S$36,000 excluding the stainless steel kitchen, furniture, air-conditioning etc.

Before the government’s 7th April 2022 announcement, my wife and I decided to give our old nest a new lease of life by doing a renovation for the entire unit. 

Wife likes to bake and does heavy cooking everyday. So she asked for a 304 grade Stainless Steel kitchen. I helped to gather information on the types of top hung and base cabinets, their dimensions, 3D drawing and sketches for her so that she can visualize the end result.
