The Day After ‘Tio TOTO’

One of the Lucky winners in SG?

After the news broke and through void deck and coffee shop chatting; together with the above illustrations, it is not difficult to see why many are unhappy with the SERS project. If given a choice, many would rather chose to stay put. Unfortunately, unlike En Bloc by private developers, there are no voting or no say on our part. When the government wants us to move, we simply had no other choices but to comply.

Well, they did say we will be given 10% priority if we want to chose from other BTO projects in other area. But that is a risk we have to take as it’s not a guarantee that we will get a small ballot number and get the unit that we wanted. Worst of all, it will be outside of AMK – the town that most of us grew up and forever occupy a special place in our hearts.

Hmm, while it seems to many outsiders that this is a windfall for residents affected by AMK SERS, many of the residents whom I spoke to were actually quite upset with the news.

Residents from 562 – 565 were mostly elderly folks that enjoy walking distances to kopi tiam, hawker centres, shops and clinics. To ask these folks to wait for 5 years for a new home is like not comforting to hear as many in their late 70s and early 80s said they may not live to see the new home.

Their argument is legit especially nobody can predict the next direction that your health will bring you.

Above is the new site at AMK Drive. As you can see, in Mar 2022, it is still a piece of empty land. No neighbourhood shops, no hawker centres, no bus-stops within walking distance.

In order to go to the ‘nearest’ hawker centre in the future, many folks will need to cross this busy junction with no shelter from the sun and rain. I hope the authority really had some plans in their mind.

This junction along AMK Ave 5 is also quite dangerous as many vehicles are entering or exiting from the Central Expressway during rush hours.

As we can see on the map, our SERS blocks are sandwich between both Chong Boon Market and Cooked Food Centre and Cheng San Market and Cooked Food Centre.

It is also walking distance to AMK MRT.

The new site can only access to Cheng San Market and Cooked Food Centre. And usually if the market is closed for washing during Monday, then siao liao.

The Not-So-Convenient location.
