Life sucks when communication is only 1 way
The residents in AMK are still mad. Even though news broke in the main stream media on how residents were made to top up more than $100K for a home that is of the same size and on top of that still have to fork out an estimate of $6,000 – $8,200 for “Optional Component Scheme”.
Saw this slip of paper underneath my door a week ago. Finally someone is rally all the residents that were affected by the unreasonable demands from HDB to come out and sign a petition.
What is fair?
We had lived most of our lives here and only wanted to be treated fairly. Just 1 month after the announcement of the SERS in AMK and realised that the government had kicked us to some forsaken corner, the government quickly announced the availability of new AMK BTO along AMK Ave 8 for outsiders to ballot.
Is it fair to kick long time residents like us to a corner while letting non-residents bid for new units just walking distance from the AMK MRT? There were no explanations or whatsoever.
Compared to Marsling residents that were affected by SERS, they got to relocate to an area that was much closer to the MRT. Whereas for AMK resident, we all felt cheated deep inside our hearts.
Signing The Petition
From the pages of names and addresses, I can see a lot of residents responded to the slip of paper. After I put my signatures on the petition, I stayed around to listen to the grievances. Most of them were legit and I can understand their frustrations.
The government had told AMK SERS residents are topping up because they opted for a bigger floor area. That was complete bullshit. Our home areas are mainly 92sqm and when we opted for the same 92sqm, we need to top up $100K for it. Granted, it’s a flat with 99-years of leased. But the government were the ones that forcing all of us of our homes and at the same time asking us to top up $100K for it? We do not earn $1M annually ok.
The government also told the public that there will be waiver of fees. But actually they slapped stamp and simi sai fee totally $12,025 on top of the small but expensive HDB.
The residents are simply sick and tired of the government turning a blind eye to this entire episode.

I was like many of you when SERS was announced in mid 2000s. I bought 4rm for 250k and was compensated based on hdb valuation at 213k. Super upset like you all. Chose a 5rm replacement without 30k grant because i owed hdb levy. Top up 100k plus for the new 5rm flat including renovation. Years later, i sold my flat at 800k
What i wanted to tell you all – look at long terms (not referring to elderly), you are upset now because you need to fork up a lot of cash. Years later, your new flat (if u willing to sell) will fetch good value
